Day 6 - Zip lining and makin' money!

As we look in our happy, loving couple in Belize today, we track them through a wonderful day of activity and relaxation.  Even though he's scared of heights, the loving husband treks along with his new wife to perform death defying flight for no real purpose other than a few good laughs and some extra moisture in the crotch of his only clean shorts.  We join our couple, day in progress, on the shuttle ride to the zipline tour......

Our driver, Ted, was at the hotel at 8:00 am to pick us up and take us to the zipline tour.  The drive was about an hour, 1/2 of which was on the main highways and the other 1/2 was on the back, dirt roads.  I joked with the driver that we thought our potholes were big, but were nothing compared to their car sized holes in the road.  Ted was a pleasure to talk with, and he and I discussed politics (he asked, "do you like your president"), electricity in Belize, real estate, taxes, family.  It was a pleasure to talk with him, and he'll be shuttling us to Belize City tomorrow so our conversation will continue. 

Once we got to the zipline, the parking lot was empty and we were the first ones there.  It became obvious soon that this was a blessing, as they often run 300 - 500 people a day through from the cruise ships.  We very much enjoyed our seven zipline sections, one as long as 700 feet and reaching 30 mph.  We must have been upwards of 75 - 100 feet in the air at times, but never felt scared or concerned.  The platforms were fairly well constructed and only swayed  a little with the four of us on there (one staff member to push and one to catch).  The guides were super nice, talkative and goofed around along the way.  When we were finished, there were a couple of big groups coming in. 

After the ride back to the hotel, we had a nice lunch and relaxed for a couple of hours. We then put on our walking shoes, and walked through the local neighborhood and down into town.  Nothing is open since it's Sunday.  Allysha bought some green mango (we think he said) from a street vendor, who covered it with a white substance.  Sugar, Allysha asked?  Nope, salt.  We didn't eat much of it :)

We returned to have dinner at the hotel once again, this time at a much slower pace since they were also serving a large party in the banquet room.  We met a couple from Calgary, and saw a possum in the trees while we were eating! 

After dinner, Allysha tagged along while I went for another quick spin in the Belizian casino (I feel so James Bond ala Casino Royale) and did quite well.  We played two shoes of cards, and on the second one I said "this deck is going to get hot" and boy did it!  We walked away up $160.00 Belizian Dollars and we'll be sure to tip Ted well again tomorrow. 

We slowly drift away from our happy couple as they begin to pack their things for tomorrow's 10:00 am journey to a new city, new sights, and new foods.  Join them tomorrow from the city of San Pedro on the Ambergrious Caye back in the Gulf of Mexico.  Until they return.....
